This showed up on Facebook re: Flickr hiring:
You might’ve seen it there, too.
Being the nosy SOB that I am, I clicked on the image. First I was wondering: is that really the Flickr dev pod? And sure enough, it is. Or was? I noticed on the user’s profile that he used to work for Flickr.
Now, the photo is licensed as Attribution-Sharealike; which is great. And I don’t believe that this is in any way a violation of the license. It’s just… Call me crazy but it seemed like a little bit of an odd choice, using a former employee’s photo. But maybe only slightly?
Enjoy. It’s getting quite a bit of action on Flickr right now.
The key is to move from the reactive, desultory world of Charlie Brown to one in which you appreciate that you are generally at least as empowered as the next person, and to realize the ethical dimension that accompanies the day-by-day as well as the landmark events in life.
That may strike many people as a bit of convenient legalese, but maybe there is something to it. If you think this economy is a mess now, imagine what it would look like if the business community started to worry that the government would start abrogating contracts left and right.
The exception of course being that most companies didn't nearly bankrupt the Western Hemisphere and then ask for a hand-out to keep going. Fuck the contracts. Had AIG gone under all together, these guys wouldn't be getting paid. So don't pay them now. Or: keep them on board, tax the shit out of the bonuses they do get, and pay them $1/year (like their CEO) until they've dug themselves and the economy out of the mess that they got it into. (Sorry guys, guess those trips to Tahiti will have to wait another couple years.)
AIG in a statement said: "The remark is very disappointing, but AIG's employees continue to work with poise and professionalism to take care of policyholders and repay taxpayers."
…repay taxpayers BY GIVING OURSELVES HUGE FUCKING BONUSES.
