As a side note to our usual installment of “Search Term Haiku”, we are interestingly finding some new search terms gaining in popularity. In particular, lots of keyphrases with “zombie” and “phobia” and even “abulothanatophobia”. Perhaps I’ll gain some authority as a resource for that “zombie phobia” term. (Ah… To try our hand again at the wikipedia entry…) That said, perhaps we need to do some work garnering more results for “nuclear winter” and “hardened underground communications bunker”…

“Search Term Haiku” is a series wherein I examine this site’s log files and construct one or more haiku poems from search terms and phrases that led visitors to the site. Where possible, I attempt to keep the search phrases intact. However, as these are haiku poems, I do need to follow the rules.

• The Indexed [tag]Phobia[/tag] List confirms that “ambulo” and “thanato” are good roots to use in my [tag]zombie[/tag]-phobia neologism. (And Dictionary.com confirms that “ambulo” is the preferred prefix in the phobia realm for “walking”.)
• Little piece off bit-tech.net on “Why [tag]Web 2.0[/tag] will end your privacy” (at least, your privacy as you know it … [tag]spime[/tag]-watch anyone?)

  • SIDE NOTE: Interesting to note here who their audience is. Let’s (safely?) assume that they’re trying to reach people in their same demographic: middle-class white polluters families. There are plenty of working-class folk living in urban areas that are already practicing this lifestyle - - and not by choice. But hey, let’s hope their message reaches at least some of the folks they’re trying to reach.

does anyone else find it strange (or even cares for that matter) that there is no bonafide phobia name for an irrational fear of zombies. there is one for vampires, werewolves, and i think even mummies. but no zombies?! i demand action!

So I proposed: ambulothanatophobia

The irrational fear of the walking dead.

A “zombie phobia” word at long last? I guess the only issue that I take with this is that the “ambulo” part is Latin while “thanato” and “phobia” are both Greek parts. Of course, the litany of phobias is mostly a patois anyway. So ambulothanatophobia could work just fine.

So, gentle readers: what say you?
