    #headed for 200,000

    199,103 on Last.fm

I’m sure that there’s someone else way ahead of me but it feels pretty good to be closing in on 200,000 plays.  And since it’s been asked already:

199,000+ represents approximately five years worth of play counts tracked via iTunes, iPod synchronization, and “nudging”[1] the playcount when we know something has been played off a CD in the car.  See you at 200,001?  Watch me!

    1. Thanks to the Add/Subtract Playcount scripts on Doug’s AppleScripts for iTunes. []

    #Happy Fair Use Day

Today (July 11th) is Fair Use Day!  w00t!

What is Fair Use Day?  In a nutshell, it’s a day where we as citizens of the world, as media consumers, as storytellers, as singers, as guitar-jamming musicians, as painters and collage artists, as new world mythologists, as human beings get to speak up (and out) about how we want to share our cultural heritage.  As consumers, we should expect a little respect from the companies we do business with; don’t lock down our products, don’t treat us like criminals.  As content makers, we should take the flip approach; how are people going to most enjoy what I make?  And how can I give them those freedoms fairly?

It’s a lot of things to a lot of people.  (Well, those people that are thinking about those things…)

    So how am I celebrating?

Well, as usual, my photos up on Flickr are released under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareALike license.  (And it’s come in handy for a bunch of folks.  This Swedish guy for example…)

But this year, I’ll go one better.  Here is a deep/tech/house track that I wrote a couple of  years ago and a remix:

Now, for all the remixers, masher-uppers, DJs, producers, sound designers, and the like: I’m also throwing out this kit of loops that I created (from scratch, more/less) to create the song.  Do with it as you will.  I’m throwing it out there under that same Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareALike license.  If you remix the track or just re-use some of the beats of FX — just drop a link my way.  Let me know what you’ve done.  I’d love to see hear it.

    #live Junior Boys, anyone?

Junior Boys @ Higher GroundOur man JDS over at False 45th has posted a few live cuts from the Burlington show back in April (previously…). Pretty exciting stuff. Especially since he is promising more.

The sound quality is excellent. He’s split the show up into individual tracks and has tried to cut out some of the chatter. (Remembering correctly from the show, there was a bit of it. But then again, there were only about 20 or so fortunate folks there. “Intimate” is definitely the way to put it.) At any rate — it seems like they may have been split up oddly (“Count Souvenirs” starts a few seconds too late, “The Equalizer” seems to cut off too soon) but what you get is golden. The recording of “Like A Child” is perfect.

Oh, and he’s using my photos. Which is always nice.

UPDATE: Yes…  It appears my downloads got corrupt and these recordings are not cut-off as sharply/abruptly/badly as I first suspected.  My apologies.

currently listening: Junior Boys “Like A Child (live)”

    #random Wednesday

    Short version:

    A. @ 1/2 Lounge

Fun is where you find it. Funny how fun a night will turn out to be when you don’t expect it. “Short walk?” “Sure!” Hours later…

You’ve admitted secret desires for industrial’s come back while at the same time spending half you’re night talking about house music, how you love to play it out and how much fun you had doing so.  And did I mention the debate (with the Jamaican) about whether or not to fear the come-ons of gay dudes?  Or whether or not that whole “gay” business is part of evolution or not?

All things being equal: this is probably the best town in the U.S. in which to live.

currently playing: Velvet Acid Christ “Crushed”

    #Black: denouement

    mixing #1705

Oh man was that ever fun.

Huge thanks to everyone that came out to show support.

Also: HOW AM I AWAKE ALREADY?

    #BLACK: this Friday

    Black flyer (27-Apr)

UPDATE: I’ve re-posted “The Hibernation Sessions” mix here (YouSentIt link good for 7 days or 100 downloads) to help promote the night. Hope to see you all there. (Well, all you Burlington-area folks, at least…)
