The United States is at war with the Czechs and has sent us as if to do combat with them in Rock Creek Park. I say “as if” because we are sent without body armor or real weapons; we are sent simply with uniforms and commanding-looking poses. Our mission is to go house to house, raiding civilian homes to “secure” the area. Alas, the Czechs are better armed than we are and although we look tidy and tough in our combat camoflauge, their arms are full of real rifles. They still back into the corner like we tell them but we soldiers are jumpy and do not know what to do with them once they have complied. The family’s little girls come home from school and we’re just as quickly on our feet and waving our pretend pistols at them…
