RIP Vonnegut

by Rob Friesel

zz58d9cec1.jpgSaddening indeed is the passing of Kurt Vonnegut. His prose was like none other, his insight into humanity preternatural, his sense of humor as scathing as it was sympathetic.

A history teacher in high school first exposed me to him through God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater. While I have forgotten much of what that story was about, I was so captivated by his style and his rhythm, that I’ve consumed quite a bit of the remainder of his body of work. Vonnegut seemed to touch on (how else to say it?) very special nerves. Maybe it was the way he broke down that 4th wall with his readers? Maybe he was from another planet? Or another time? Hard to say. He’ll be missed by this human being right here.
