Could the timing by *any* better!? Terribly interesting piece on open source in Africa shows up on Boing Boing right as this thread was starting to get somewhere…

Open source is the only affordable, reliable option for the long term, he says. A spreadsheet supports his contention — installation of servers, workstations, networks and, crucially, long-term support for considerably less than a retailer would charge for hardware and a single year’s worth of support.

Doesn’t get into the linguistic issues that exist in the background here, and doesn’t contain any shocking revelations but the timing is just … well, uncanny.
