So, I’ll probably get a ProSound catalog at least once a month for the rest of my life. And that’s fine. Just that this month, I feel taunted because there’s this on the cover. The Behringer DJX700 Professional 5-Channel DJ Mixer with Digital Effects and BPM Counter. Oh baby… Too good to be true…? With a price tag that weighs in at only about $200, you can bet it’s no Allen & Heath (oh, that Xone!) but it does call into question whether or not the DJM600 is worth the money. Granted, I am very hesitant to put the Behringer in the same category as something like the Pioneer or a Vestax … but having spun through Numark for four years now, I have a good idea of what to expect from a less-than-pro-level-quality mixer. So when I go out looking for reviews, I have an idea of why I’m going to see comments like “…[t]his mixer is everything it claims to be and then some … [f]or the price it simply cant be beat…” on the same page as comments like “…[t]ry a djx 700 next to a djm 500/600 and write a review telling me how right i am not to give this mixer the time of day.” Makes sense… But if you’re not outfitting a club space the size of Buzz or Sonar and you’re probably not going to spin out that much (“…at all…”) anyway, how wrong could you go?

Somehow, I have the feeling I shouldn’t drop the loot on it anyway. But I do have a birthday coming up…
