dream.20070815: big black eyes

by Rob Friesel

Record shopping.  During work hours?  (Your work has perhaps come home with you.)  The music plays, interrupted periodically but the 60 second samples of new, desired tracks.  You uninvited guests stare at you with irritation at each beefy bass beat and treble-toned sweep; your tune browsing is not what they bargained for.  A moment’s pause to break away.  Fresh air, a glass of water.  She waits for you in the other room; skinny and narrow-bodied, head almost too big for her shoulders.  She’s corrupted your partner against you and spins rhetoric around you in some melodic voice.  She would have you think your partner is still around, that it’s you that’s done the leaving, the straying.  With each word, Her eyes get larger, glossier, blacker; an Anime character come to life in your own home.  She never touches you but She comes close and you can feel the immeasurably small distance between Her finger tips and your shoulder as She turns that corruption further on to you.
