I’m called into a room. There is family here. (But dream friends, and dream family; not my waking life family.) There is news for me. She is to be a mother. (But she is not my wife; in fact she is another man’s wife. A friend’s wife. But everyone knows about this [him included] and this is simply the way of things here.) But she explains that she is sick, that she has been sick for a long time. She has already had children of her own. She cannot bear another pregnancy, not when she is sick like this. There is no discussing it. We are only to deal with it. Together, or not.
