10 years of homebrewing

by Rob Friesel

Ten years ago today, a good friend came over and we brewed a beer together. “Felicitas” was the first of many over the next several years.

And by “many”, I mean 109 batches of homebrewed beers, ciders, and meads. Along the way I became a BJCP National judge, a Certified Cicerone, and got up on the brew deck a few times for scaled-up commercial batches of beers based on my recipes.

For a variety of reasons, I haven’t brewed all that much since 2020 — aside from those commercial batches — but I’m hoping to get back in the game now that a few things have settled down. I probably won’t brew as much as I did in that 2018-2019 stretch, but to even just put 3 or 4 brews on the board per year would feel like a happy return.

If I had a bottle of that Felicitas left over from 2014… well, it would be oxidized as hell, but I’d drink it with some serious nostalgia in my heart.
