dream.20051207: poker face

by Rob Friesel

I return home to find six 60+ year old women gathered around a table in my kitchen. Each of them has a laptop and is clicking furiously away at something that I can’t quite see yet. When I enter the room they each give me these dirty looks, like I’ve tread somewhere I shouldn’t. I’m not wearing a watch but I guess maybe I’m home a little earlier than usual. Regardless, they sort of bare their teeth at me, still clicking furiously away. I take a step closer and see that they’re all playing some kind of online poker game. And winning. Winning a lot of money. A comes in to the room and pulls me aside. She explains that these women work for her now. They’re getting us rich. A has figured out a system where she can essentially bypass the randomization routines that determine what cards come up in this online poker tournament. And now they’re cleaning up. Close to twenty-thousand just today. It’s about then that I sense someone behind me. One of the old women has tried to sneak up behind me with a knife. I manage to dodge the swipe and take off. She and the others chase me, trying to stab and slice me. A yells at them that I’m OK – – but they’ll have none of it. I guess I know too much now.
