NaNoWriMo 2006

by Rob Friesel

In ’04 my excuse was… Well, I didn’t have one. Last year I was in the midst of a “serious” project. (And, honestly, I still am…) But this year I have decided to do it. November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and (as declared elsewhere) I have signed up.

I’ve decided that this is the best thing that I can do personally – – a gesture of commitment to my craft. Put the “real” project(s) on hold and write something. Anything.

Actually, not just anything. I’ve been keeping a private journal of writing “seeds” over the past year or so and now is the time to sow a couple of them. In fact, so eager am I to get started that I began outlining a particularly strong-feeling idea. While this isn’t exactly against the rules nor is it discouraged, I get the feeling that they’d rather you just spew out word salad with reckless abandon. Apparently though, I’m not their target audience either. Peope who take their writing […] seriously, indeed…

All that said: I apparently missed the VT regional kick-off gathering tonight. No worries though. I’ve always been a bit of a shut in anyway. Eager to start nonetheless…  I’ll be posting progress reports as we go.
