I’m serious: if you’re not going to grow it yourself, try and get it direct from the folks pulling it out of the ground.  Apparently we have that a little easier here in VT than elsewhere.  According to an article I read in the current issue of Vermont Life:

Vermont […] has the highest per capita rate of direct sales of food products from farmers to consumers in the nation, 5.5 times the national average, according to the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont […].   Aren’t we lucky?
