a letter to our Senators about these TSA “enhanced patdowns”

by not another Rob?

I have already written to my Senators. If you’re in Vermont, try these convenient links:

And if you’re not quite sure what to say, go ahead and use my words:

I am writing to urge you to please put an immediate stop to the horrific policies of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).  The recently instituted policies of the TSA have gone beyond reasonable and I feel are a violation of our Fourth Amendment rights protecting us against unreasonable search and seizure.

I am referring, of course, to the millimeter wave backscatter radar scanners and the “enhanced pat-down” searches that involve touching the genitals and other private regions of American citizens.

These sorts of searches are invasive, disrespectful of personal privacy, and are unlikely to increase security at airports over and above methods that are otherwise already used.

The news is quickly filling up with stories of people who are being inconvenienced, put into legal jeopardy under dubious circumstances, and in some cases even sexually violated.  Here are just two examples:

Please put a stop to these petty domestic tyrannies–the stakes for our freedoms and civil liberties have never been higher.

If you think I’m over-stating the case… Well, I think this is all pretty horrific and if we don’t stand up now it will be a precursor to the United States become a bona fide police state.
