What does a proper home bar require? (a.k.a. what’s in the medicine liquor cabinet?) We asked ourselved the question: If one were to stock a mini-bar in their home, what are the required items?
- brandy
- gin (preferably Hendrick’s)
- “clean” vodka (preferably Ketel One)
- one or more flavored vodka(s) (w/ the Stoli name attached); a citron of some kind is required for Cosmopolitans
- Kahlua (is there any other kind?)
- Grenadine
- Creme de Cacao
- Whisk[e]y (Jameson or Powers)
- minimum one (1) Scotch
- triple sec
- rum (Arrrrrrrrrrrrr!)
- sweet vermouth
- Champagne
- Angostura bitters
- lemons, limes, cherries
- sugar, salt
- absolutely, positively *NO* tequila
There are, of course, things not listed above. You’ll need cream for White Russians and Brandy Alexanders… You’ll need tomato juice bases for Bloody Marys. Etc. But the above ought to be a good enough start.
