The Sigma they reference also sounds pretty damn hot. (Plus, the Sigma lens is for Canon bodies.)
-
by Lebbeus Woods (via B²): this movie would have been far more interesting. Then again, I said that when I heard about the alternate William Gibson script as well.
-
via DF: it's all about the spit-and-polish, baby.

via DF: I agree with Gruber that:
none of these apps scale to handle the needs of advanced users, but I disagree that it’s necessarily a problem. […] …Apple’s unstated policy this decade has been that they’re going to knock themselves out making outstanding software that does the simple things for typical users very well.
It's not a problem if that's the scope to which you're limiting the project. That said, the "problem apps" cited are the ones targeted at (e.g.) "[t]he user with 200 photos today" and not necessarily "the user with 2000 a year from now"; that's a different realm of user with different needs. Echoing J.G. again: that's "where the third-party opportunities are."

via DF (and re: A.P.): like Anderson, the data I feed into VoodooPad follows at least a loose structure to begin with (i.e., dated pages serve as daily logs/journal entries with hyperlinks to common reference items (e.g., projects, knowledge subjects, etc.)) so I reject the faulty preposition that "everything buckets" are ipso facto Not A Good Idea. This is not to say that Payne's argument is not without some merits (i.e., the old axiom about garbage coming out when you put garbage in) but Anderson has a good counter-point in that average users utilize such a small percentage of their clock cycles anyway that we (as engineers) are doing them a disservice by not off-loading some of that work onto the CPU.

This is what I'll be reading (eating?) from now on. Also: this makes me want a bacon-wrapped double-stuffed Oreo®, drizzled with a prime rib fat reduction.
-
Didn't I flag this as "check this out" once before? Worth checking out…?
-
at instantShift: I don't know if these necessarily qualify as "hacks" (tricks, maybe?) but useful tips.
