I’m such a sucker for this stuff… Viva la 64-bit revolution! Yes, even more on the G5. Yes, even more on Apple. Yes, this graphic design stuff is my business and so I can’t help but get excited even if I’m fully aware of how crassly commercial it can so easily be… The Power Mac […]
Maybe I’m following this story too closely … but it does intrigue me. Especially: Varadarajan said all the code he wrote for Virginia Tech’s Linux-based clusters was moved over to the Mac OS X computers with relative ease. Which makes me raise an eyebrow because porting the terminal apps shouldn’t be that rough and w/ […]
AMD joins the 64 bit race not too long after Apple. Pervasive 64-bit computing is the engine of that innovation. Or something along those lines.
Photos of Virginia Tech’s PowerMac G5 Cluster. UPDATE! Chaosmint’s notes about VT’s G5 cluster.
Seriously, Reuters (by way of Wired), call it by it’s name… Say it with me: “PowerBook G4.” Mmm… Next computer… (A is gonna kill me.)
Santa Clara, California-based Intel has said the PC market is not yet ready for 64-bit computing and lacks applications that will run on the chips. Which strikes my as funny, b/c the article focuses solely on Intel and AMD chips, not bothing to mention that Apple’s new G5 is a 64-bith processor and that Adobe […]
One of the things that is truly rockin’ about OS X is that it is (for all intents and purposes) FreeBSD 4.4. So it has been nice to switch to Mac and w/o having to fret over the kind of memory management woes that used to be so stymie’ing when “preferring” to use them at […]
so i successfully compiled and used GIMP (by way of fink and X11) last night. The iBook now has graphics, albeit a graphics program that will take a LOT of getting used to. Photoshop it ain’t — but it’ll have to do for now. Anyway, I must say that there’s nothing quite like watching the […]
tough decisions to make. Fink gets my crank turning and makes me perhaps a little too excited about getting Gimp and Sablotron up and running w/ little to no troubles… Sounds terrific! But there’s this problem for Fink when one is running Virex 7.2 virus protection. Naturally, that’s the most up-to-date version of Virex. *sigh* […]
