    #NaNoWriMo: 09-Nov

NaNoWriMo: 09-NovWriting location: Once again, just The Chair…

Tonight we’re up to 24,078 words. “Thanks” to all the other NaNos out there for their support. I’ve gotten tons of traffic here, through my profile there, and from my Flickr stream.  (Stoli is getting a lot of action from this occasion, too…)  I guess I didn’t realize that I was so “on it”!

I got to my first big “!!!” moment tonight. I didn’t think I was going to make it. A. & I plowed through two episodes of Six Feet Under (season 5) after dinner and I almost threw my tired ass into bed. I didn’t want to break my momentum though. “Even 200 words tonight will be better than none at all.” (Being five days ahead of pace, I could afford that, right…?) But I knew deep down that if I didn’t write tonight that that would be a very bad sign.

Especially since I was so close. And even then, I thought I would get “right up to it” - - but I found it in me to bring myself over that line in the plot. Things have come together so well so far…

You’ll be missed, man. You were one hell of a journalist.

    #2^18 of 2^24

Slashdot Posting Bug Infuriates Haggard Admins:

Last night we crossed over 16,777,216 comments in the database. The wise amongst you might note that this number is 2^24, or in MySQLese an unsigned mediumint. Unfortunately, like 5 years ago we changed our primary keys in the comment table to unsigned int (32 bits, or 4.1 billion) but neglected to change the index that handles parents…

“Upon closer inspection, we have discovered that 2^18 of these comments were one line long and consisted of keyphrases such as ‘what a jerk’, ‘we welcome our new $VARIABLE overlords’, and ‘n00b’. We are currently discussing the purging of these useless remarks.” /heh
